Der Berner Ausnahmebassist Mich Gerber gibt seinem Kontrabass eine Solostimme, entwickelt einen eigenen Duktus, der einmalig und unverkennbar ist.
Am Gartenfestival präsentiert er seine All Star Jam Band mit Al Comet (ex The Young Gods) an der Sitar, Wolfgang Zwiauer (Züri West) am Mandocello & Bass und Andi Pupato (Stiller Has) an der Perkussion.
Dabei betreten die vier hochkarätigen Musiker Neuland: sie kreieren mit ihrem groovigen Sound und den vielen Improvisationen ein 80 Minuten langes Raga, das die Jam Band Tradition fortführt. Das ergibt wunderbar frische, überraschend vielseitige und beseelte Musik. /MS. [Mokka Event]

… 22 Jahre arbeitete Alain Monod alias Al Comet mit der Post-Industrial-Band The Young Gods. 2011 gewann er ein halbjähriges Residence-Stipendium in Varanasi, wo er beim renommierten Guru Rabindra Goswami Sitar spielen lernte.
Nach fünf Jahren Üben und Experimentieren legt er jetzt als Mahadev Cometo mit dem Album «Freedom» die Früchte seiner Arbeit vor: ein Raga in vier Teilen, raffiniert erweitert mit Elektronik…
Cometo wollte aber nicht eine weitere Scheibe, auf der ein westliches Elektronik-Konstrukt mit etwas indischem Parfüm bestäubt würde. Er suchte seine eigene East-West-Imagination, durchaus mit elektronischen Mitteln…
Am Ende entdeckte er durch Zufall einen neuen Sampler, mit dem er – ganz Young God – die passende Arbeitsweise entdeckte: Er sampelte die Sitar, kreierte die ganze Klangwelt mit den flirrenden Tablas, Drones und Sounds und baute alles zum wunderbar-kaleidoskopischen Sound des Albums zusammen…

En 2014, après plus de 20 ans au sein de The Young Gods, Al Comet s’envole pour l’Inde afin de s’initier au sitar auprès d’un maître, sur les rives du Gange, à Varanasi.
Passer du son du sampler à celui de l’ancestral sitar Indien fût une aventure en soi. Il conjugue depuis lors concerts et productions discographiques sous le nom de Mahadev Cometo.
En combinant ses savoirs, il propose aujourd’hui un nouvel univers sonore, une nouvelle expérience musicale, entre tradition et modernité.
Le live s’accompagne des peintures holocinétiques de K-soul, entre lumière, peinture et poésie.

Raag – राग, in the Sanskrit dictionary, is defined as the act of coloring or dyeing (the mind in this context) and any feeling or passion, especially love, affection, sympathy, vehement desire, interest, joy, or delight.
It could be closely referred to as scales in the western music. Yet, it is a combination of various features like tunes, melody, modes, scales, etc that form a complete raag.
